This is a list of the therapists who provide the Bath Psychotherapy Service. They are all fully qualified members of their professional associations and are registered by either UKCP or BPC. and abide by the codes of ethics and practice of their member organisations and registering bodies. There have always been healing relationships whose purpose has been to relieve suffering and promote deeper self understanding and acceptance. The focus may be on past wounds or on present conflicts or both. In each case the goal is to help the person to begin to live more fully in the present and to face the future more creatively. Matthew Harwood IGAP UKCP registeredMatthew Harwood is a Jungian Analyst & Psychotherapist in private practice. He trained at the CGJung Institute in Zurich and graduated with a Diploma in Analytical Psychology in 1996. He is a senior member of the Independent Group of Analytical Psychologists, IGAP, and is a former Chair of Ethics. He is also registered with UKCP. He is available for general psychotherapy, Jungian analysis, individual consultations and supervision. In addition to practising general psychotherapy, Matthew has a particular interest in working with dreams within the therapeutic context. Although trained within the Jungian Classical tradition, he likes to integrate techniques & insights from other schools including Gestalt Psychology, Object Relations, Psychodrama & Self Psychology. Since then he has worked in agency and psychiatric settings as well as being involved in training others and in private practice. He now works from his home in Bath. Trained within the psychoanalytic tradition, his interest is in meeting the needs of each individual client as they try to understand themselves and work through their dilemmas. His book DEVELOPING PSYCHODYNAMIC COUNSELLING, 1995, gives a clear idea of what the experience of therapy can be like. A former monk, he works from a contemplative perspective, with individuals and couples, as well as offering supervision for those in the helping professions, one to one or in groups. Brendan works from the position of respecting the reality and individuality of each person, including ability, age, belief, gender, and sexual orientation. She has a consulting room in Saltford which is easily accessible by car or bus from Bristol and Bath. She also works from home not far from Somerton in Somerset. This has disabled access. Her first interest was working with groups in the Richmond Fellowship. This led to training as a group analyst with the Westminster pastoral Foundation. Although individual psychotherapy and supervision in private practice is the core of her work, she maintains an interest in using her group skills in various organisational and training capacities. She runs a reflective practice group for the Clergy and currently holds the position of Chair of the Council of Management for the Wessex Counselling Service. She graduated as a dental surgeon and gained a Diploma in Medical and Dental Hypnosis from the Royal College of Medicine. After specialising in the treatment of nervous patients, she left to train as a psychotherapist. She worked at the Richmond Fellowship using counselling and group work within the setting of a Therapeutic Community; she co-led family therapy groups; she also worked with women with eating disorders. Judith qualified at the London Centre for Psychotherapy, (www.lcp.psychotherapy.org.uk). She has been in private practice for the past 21 years in London and Bath. She works with people with a wide variety of problems. Clients can refer themselves or be referred by their doctor. Clients are seen in a large, light and airy consulting room in Camden, Bath, from once to four times weekly, according to need. Each session lasts 50 minutes and provides a confidential space in which to explore difficulties. Judith's particular interests are in enabling clients find the communications contained in dreams or symptoms and in helping locate and resolve present day discomforts, often linked to problematic issues in childhood. Tel: 01225 315702 Nigel Wellings AIP UKCP registeredNigel Wellings has a broad background in psychotherapy, qualifying initially in psychoanalytic psychotherapy and then entering further Jungian studies. He has served as a Director of Training and a member of the Council of Management at the Centre for Transpersonal Psychology and is a founding member of the Forum for Contemplative Studies that supports interest in the meeting of depth psychotherapies and contemplative traditions - in particular Buddhism and the practice of mindfulness meditation. With Elizabeth Wilde McCormick he has edited and written two books: Transpersonal Psychotherapy, theory and practice', and Nothing To Lose Psychotherapy, Buddhism and Living Life. She believes that therapy can help if you are having difficulties in your relationships or are not feeling fulfilled and want to understand how your past experiences are shaping the present. She also works with dreams and sees them as having the potential to heal and offer insight. Alexandra's first degree was in English Literature and she has continued to take a passionate interest in all the arts, running creative writing workshops and writing events www.writingeventsbath.co.uk as well as being a published author herself. She has recently been engaged in setting up a life history project in a residential home for the elderly. She is also an experienced supervisor. He has been involved with various counselling and psychotherapy organisations for more than twenty years as a training therapist, supervisor, consultant and teacher. Originally, he trained with the Westminster Pastoral Foundation and then later with the Association of Jungian Analysts. He works with individuals on a long term basis, but also does short term work if considered to be more appropriate. He regularly gives seminars and papers to other professionals. Tel: 01373 467661 Linda Patterson, SIP, BPC Registered Linda Patterson is a Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist with a Jungian background since 1988, having trained at the Severnside Institute for Psychotherapy in Bristol. She is a current and Founder Member of the Avon Counselling and Psychotherapy Service based in Bristol and Bath, and is a Member of the British Psychoanalytic Council, by whose Code of Ethics she abides. She is one of the Founder Members of the Analytic Network. She sees adults for individual sessions on a short term or longer term basis, as well as offering individual or group supervision to other practitioners, having taught counsellors and psychotherapists in various trainings. She has given public lectures on how we change, dreams and the connection between psychotherapeutic ideas and current affairs.
